PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TIPS
Thirty hours of training sounds like a lot of time but, by spreading it out over two years, it means one training (2 1/2 hours) every other month. This gives you the time to find trainings you really enjoy and one that will help your program. There are so many sources of training hours beside the video conferences that New York State provides.
Our local Council offers POST (Personal On-Site Trainings), CACFP Trainings, Enrichment Trainings, American Red Cross, Corning Community College, Cooperative Extension, and BOCES also offer courses that would be suitable for the Child Day Care Profession. Keep in mind the Office of Children and Family Services would like to encourage you to work toward your professionalism by providing EIP funds you can use toward credit and non-credit courses. To request an application, download one from the website www.tsg.suny.edu or call 1-800-295-9616. It may take as long as eight weeks for the EIP award notification, so apply well in advance or plan on paying for courses and being reimbursed when the EIP award is received.
